Seasonal Changes: Turning Photography Into Wearable Art
Did you know you can print photographs directly onto fabric and transform them into patches for clothing? It’s become one of my favorite ways to merge art, storytelling, and upcycling, and it recently became the foundation for a very special project.
A Collaboration Rooted in Friendship and Memory
This jacket was born out of a collaboration with my dear friend and incredibly talented photographer, Emily Capisciolto (@emcapphoto & @emilycapisciolto). Emily approached me with the idea of creating a piece that would bring her photography into the world of textiles, and immediately I was all in.
What made it even more special was the imagery she wanted to use: photographs she had taken on a bachelorette trip to Mexico for our best friend. That trip holds so much meaning for both of us, it was a time of laughter, celebration, and connection. By incorporating those memories into fabric, the jacket became more than just wearable art; it became a vessel for friendship, shared history, and love.
Emotere: Exploring Water and Emotion
Emily’s work has always moved me. Her ability to capture the emotional undercurrents of nature, especially water, is nothing short of magical. Her show, Emotere, which opened on September 11, 2025 at Tomfoolery Gallery in Grand Rapids, Michigan was an exhibition that brought together her photography, poetry, and a newly released book, all centered on the deep connections between water and human emotion.
Adding this jacket to the mix felt like such a natural extension of her work. Just as water is fluid and ever-changing, upcycling allows garments to evolve, taking on new forms, new meaning, and new life.

Why Upcycled Fashion Matters in Art
To me, this collaboration is more than just a creative experiment. It’s a reflection of how art, sustainability, and personal storytelling can intersect. By reusing an existing garment and layering it with Emily’s imagery, we created something that not only honors her art but also celebrates a memory we hold dear.
This jacket is proof that fashion can carry stories, sometimes literally, while staying grounded in mindful making.
Emily, thank you for trusting me with your vision and for inviting me into this project. I’m so proud of what we’ve made together, and even more grateful for your friendship!
